Longtime Ayurvedic practitioner and Pure Indian Foods lover Susan Weis-Bohlen has just released her third book on Ayurveda. The Beginner's Guide to Ayurvedic Home Remedies: Ancient Healing for Modern Life, offers a three-tiered plan for dealing with common ailments, health issues, and everyday challenges. Through food, lifestyle changes, and apothecary recommendations, Susan details how to prevent, treat and change the course of problems relating to aging, seasonal allergies, skin conditions, GI disturbances and more. Using the premise that food is medicine, Susan makes suggestions based on your dosha (there is a great dosha quiz in the book to help you determine your mind-body type), using many techniques to restore balance and harmony to mind and body. Deep Winter Writing Retreat

Deep Winter Writing Retreat

Winter is such a special time. Darkness descends in late afternoon. We crave food to ground and keep us warm. A stillness envelopes us as we settle into a new routine. Sweaters come out of the closet. Recipes for soups and stews make their way from the cookbook to the bowl. This is an amazing time to access our creativity. To go within, as they say. This workshop will allow you time, space and quietude to look around in yourself and nature, to find the words you want to write. To express yourself on the page. And to share with a group of supportive people who will bear witness to your words without ever trying to fix the story, or make suggestions or comparisons. Your words on the page will speak for themselves. You don’t need to explain a thing.

Join us for a day of writing, meditation and walking in nature, in noble silence. No experience necessary.

Details:

Date and time: Saturday, February 4, 2023, 9 am - 5 pm. Option to stay over the night of Friday, February 3.

Place: Spring House at Fox Haven Learning Center, 5532 Carroll Boyer Road, Middletown, MD 21769

What's included: Vegetarian breakfast & lunch, meditation sessions, writing sessions with feedback, silent walk on the farm. Light dinner for those staying Friday night. You can see pictures of Spring House on airbnb here.

Cost: Friday night and Saturday: $175; Saturday only: $108

Spring House is a nearly 300-year-old farmhouse that has been beautifully renovated. I've been holding classes and retreats there since 2009 (and I got married there in 2010!) We'll gather in front of the wood-burning stove, eat meals at the farm table, walk the land and greet the dairy cows. If you choose to stay overnight, there are 4 spacious and cozy bedrooms that sleep multiple people.

COVID protocols followed ask that you test negative the day of arrival.

To hold your space you can make a payment to:

Venmo: @susan-weis-bohlen

Virtual Summer Self-Care workshop via Carroll County Public Library

Join me for an informative and experiential talk about summer self-car, based on my new book, Seasonal Self-Care Rituals. Learn how to stay healthy and happy and to support the immune system as we emerge from the pandemic and face the world again. After a brief introduction to Ayurveda, I will introduce topics of food, body care, meditation, exercise, and aromatherapy that you can put into practice right away!

Pre-COVID, I taught cooking, meditation, and led sacred site tours, mostly in India. My personal journey into the Ayurvedic lifestyle began when I came across the Ayurvedic cleansing technique of Panchakarma. What began as the release of damaging toxins and personal difficulties eventually grew into an impassioned vocation. I have since studied with the best teachers of Ayurveda, both in the US and in India.

You can find my books Ayurveda Beginner’s Guide (2018) and Seasonal Self-Care Rituals (2020) in the library catalog or purchase at my website: https://www.breatheayurveda.com/ or anywhere books are sold. Please try to buy local!
